This is not necessarily an Irish-themed event, but is a great way to spend your St. Patrick’s Day weekend. The Broadway show, Pippin, is coming to the Stranahan Theatre March 16 through 19, bringing an exciting and magical show to its viewers. Follow a young prince along a journey to find the ultimate meaning of life, where you’ll encounter elements of surrealism and excitement, laced with wonderful music.
The Toledo Zoo’s wide selection of events throughout the year enhance each and every holiday — especially when there is wine involved. On St. Patrick’s Day, head to the zoo’s Great Hall for wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres, live music and lots of socializing. This could be a fun night out with friends, or a special date night for you and your significant other. Tickets cost $45 for members and $50 for non-members.
The Toledo Museum of Art has a jampacked calendar filled with events for couples, families and art enthusiasts. At their Glass Art Workshops, you will learn a new skill, create a beautiful piece to take home and display, and have a blast in the meantime. Throughout the month of March, you can create a “Pot O’Treasure” — or a pot of gold, if you will.
Follow the step-by-step guide of a Toledo Museum of Art instructor during this one-hour workshop in the Glass Pavilion to create your very own masterpiece. Tickets cost $30 for members and $40 for nonmembers, and may be purchased in person or by phone during museum hours.
The workshop takes place on March 3, 10, 17, 24 and 30 — at 6, 7 and 8 p.m.
On the Saturday after St. Patrick’s Day, take part in the annual TASA St. Paddy’s Day PubCrawl. Hop on board any of the eight buses that travel on two loops throughout Sylvania and the downtown/uptown area, where you’ll stop at 13 pubs with no cover and lots of beer specials! And better yet, all of this convenience and fun costs just $30.
The Blarney Irish Pub presents its annual 3-mile “shuffle” on Saturday, March 18. Dress up in as much green as you can find and show up to run, walk, have lots of fun — or a combination of all of the above! After the race, join the ongoing celebration inside downtown Toledo’s Blarney Irish Pub party tent. The race starts at 4 p.m. and travels from Blarney Irish Pub past many noteworthy Toledo sights, and ends at the tent, where a live DJ and bands will keep the party going until 9 p.m.
Whether or not you go to any of these local St. Patrick’s Day events, you’ll find a festive Irish party at any of Toledo’s Irish-themed bars. With overflowing mugs of Guinness, traditional Irish fare, and an overall lively and hospitable atmosphere, we can’t think of a better environment for St. Paddy’s Day.
