Nestled on the southern shore of the Maumee River, Perrysburg is truly at the crossroads of America. It offers the lifestyle of a small town with the amenities of a larger city. It has been rated as one of the best hometowns by Ohio Magazine, as well as one of the 10 best towns in the country to raise a family. Perrysburg has done a great job of blending its history with the current times. It is one of only two towns in the U.S. to be planned & mapped out by the Federal government (the other being Washington D.C.). This is why Perrysburg has four different streets with Boundary in their names (North, South, East, and West). There is a wonderful downtown area with a blend of stores, restaurants, and offices. The downtown area is surrounded by neighborhoods of beautiful, historic homes. Fort Meigs, the largest wooden-walled fort in North America, serves as a reminder of our past and as an educational establishment to students and adults from all areas.
The Perrysburg School System is consistently rated by the state of Ohio as “excellent”, and this year received an “excellent with distinction” rating, the highest rating possible. Perrysburg was one of only five districts to receive this honor in Lucas and Wood counties. Way Public Library has been recognized nationally as a top library and has received numerous awards. It recently ranked 10th out of 1,773 libraries in its service category.
Perrysburg boasts many parks and recreational areas. The recreational division offers summer programs and camps for children of all ages. Municipal Park has a wonderful pool that is used for open swims as well as water aerobic, diving, and swimming lessons. The Fort Meigs YMCA offers many options for community members as well, from swimming and working out to personal enrichment opportunities.
Levis Commons, which opened in October 2004, is an open air lifestyle center that includes rental and owner occupied housing, retail stores, office space, a movie theater, restaurants, and a Hilton hotel. It is located next to the world headquarters for Owens-Illinois, the world's largest manufacturer of glass containers in the world.
Green energy is certainly a growing industry right now, and Perrysburg Township houses the largest of the solar panel manufacturing companies. First Solar is located in Perrysburg Township and has brought hundreds of great paying jobs to the local area. Along with other local companies, First Solar is trying to help lead the way in our area’s transformation from an auto and glass manufacturing region to a “green zone”.
Hopefully you can see why Perrysburg’s slogan is “Embracing the past. Poised for the future.” From our rich history to our vision of what can be, Perrysburg is a unique blend that you won’t want to miss!
