Once a major Lake Erie ship port, Maumee's history is somehow both momentous and quaint. Now considered a suburb of Toledo, Maumee is actually the older of the two cities and was platted in 1817. Due to newer transportation methods, Maumee's economic boom began to fade towards the late 1800s and it transitioned into the close-knit, all-American hometown that we know today.

The history of Maumee is well-preserved with many of its most visited sites under the maintenance of the Maumee Valley Historical Society. The Wolcott Heritage Center is located on River Road with these buildings housed on the complex: Frederick House, The Wolcott House, Maumee Memorabilia Museum, Log Cabin, The Gilbert Flanigan Farmhouse, Maumee Clover Leaf Depot, Box Schoolhouse, and Monclova Country Church. The Fallen Timbers Battlefield (4949 Jerome Road) and Fort Miamis National Historic Site (4010 Michigan Street) are also designated Historic Places managed by the Toledo Metroparks. In addition, Maumee has numerous historic districts and registered buildings in the Uptown area and along River Road.

This area of the city is a hotspot for local dining, retail, and bar hopping. It's in this neighborhood, right off of the river, where the town's history first began. Now Conant Street and its offshoots are lined with shops reaffirming the small town feel, like Georgette's Grounds & Gifts, Maumee Valley Chocolate and Candy, and Jacky's Depot. The Maumee Branch Library is located half a mile east of Conant on River Road. If you're looking for more of a party environment, Uptown has plenty of that, too! The Village Idiot, Buster Brown's Big Dog Lounge, and Dale's Bar and Grill draw in large crowds. This area also boasts some of Maumee's oldest, most charming homes! Hosting plenty of parades, fairs, and events throughout the year, Uptown Maumee is always a good time!

Maumee's average sale price over the last 12 months is $268,563. The average days on market is 50— over 19% lower than the total MLS average. There's stiff competition for Maumee properties as the number of homes for sale is down 25.6% over the last year. The city is working on additional housing by adding a 50-unit affordable apartment project west of the Anthony Wayne Trail and Ford Street intersection. According to the Ohio Housing Finance Agency, Maumee has "never been awarded tax credit housing" and this will be the community's first affordable complex.
