Things to Do in Oregon, Ohio

Oregon is a unique community within the region, as it provides direct access to Lake Erie merely 10-20 minutes from the heart of downtown Toledo. Although Oregon is the sixth largest city in Ohio by geography, it maintains a quaint, small-town feel with nearly 20,000 residents. Whether you are heading to Lake Erie for a weekend getaway, or you currently reside in this lakeside town, there are so many things worth doing in Oregon. Let’s take a look at some of the best things to do during your stay (or long-term stay) in this community!

Experience Nature at Maumee Bay State Park

Maumee Bay State Park is comprised of 1,336 acres hosting the finest recreational facilities in the Midwest, and a beautiful natural environment created by the convergence of land and Lake Erie. The park holds a lodge and conference center, cottages and a golf course —  all within the area’s scenic meadows, lush marshes and sandy shores. You can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities at Maumee Bay State Park, including boating, camping, fishing, golfing, hunting, picnicking, swimming, hiking and more! Maumee Bay State Park

Maumee Bay Lodge and Conference Center

Another way to make your stay a little more permanent (besides buying a home in Oregon) is with a weekend stay at Maumee Bay Lodge and Conference Center situated alongside Lake Erie in Maumee Bay State Park. Participate in the many on-site activities in this picturesque setting, play a round of golf on their 1,850 acres of protected wetlands along the lake, park your boat in the marina, go hiking or bird-watching, or explore the many nearby activities. At the end of the day, relax and take in the spectacular lake views from your room at the Maumee Bay Lodge or in a cozy private cabin. This is the perfect place to retreat as a couple or have a blast as a family! Maumee Bay Lodge and Conference Center

Take a Stroll Through Pearson Park

Immerse yourself in the lush greenery of Pearson Park, the perfect place for an afternoon stroll, scenic bike ride, or relaxing picnic. This historic park is one of the last remaining strands of the Great Black Swamp, a notorious forest that once blanketed much of northwest Ohio. Observe many Depression-era buildings, go bird watching in the thick woods near Lake Erie, or participate in the many recreational activities available at Pearson Park, including baseball, soccer, tennis, fishing, ice skating and sledding! See a Movie at Sundance Kid Drive-In

Starting in late May, you can essentially step back in time at Sundance Kid Drive-In across from Pearson Park. See two movies back-to-back without leaving your car, and experience this age-old American tradition with the whole family. The reasonable ticket prices seem like they were also frozen in time, as tickets for adults cost $9, kids 5–12 get in for $3, and kids under 4 are free! Sundance Kid Drive-In

Grab a Meal in Town

After all this activity, you’re bound to work up an appetite —  either for lunch or dinner. It’s time to stop by one of our favorite local restaurants in Oregon! Visit Eagle’s Nest Sweet Retreat for exceptional pizza, grinders, and ice cream. This family-owned restaurant is nestled within a community of homes near Clay High School, which makes it feel all the more inviting and comfortable. Oregon Inn at Bay Shore serves some of the best prime rib, steaks and seafood in the Northwest Ohio area. Located near the shore of Lake Erie, this makes for the perfect pit-stop before or after your lake adventures. Satisfy your sweet tooth with a stop at Haas Bakery, serving cakes, cookies, donuts, rolls and other baked goods —  all made fresh daily. Stop by for a pick-me-up or rely on Haas Bakery to provide dessert for your next special occasion! Oregon Inn on Bay Shore
