Mini golf, often referred to as “putt-putt,” is a beloved pastime that combines skill and a dash of friendly competition. Miniature Golf Day is celebrated around the globe each year on September 21. This fun activity has interesting roots. In Victorian Scotland, women were not allowed to play golf because it was considered unladylike for them to raise clubs over their heads. The Ladies’ Putting Club of St. Andrews challenged this restriction by inventing the miniature sport in 1867.
Thanks to these resourceful women, the popularity of mini golf skyrocketed. By 1960, the World Minigolf Sports Federation was created with a mission to preserve the integrity, teamwork, and inclusivity of the game.
